How my blog began…..

I started Chat About Books in October 2015.

I had joined Netgalley a few months previous to starting my blog after author, Mel Sherratt, recommended it to me. I had written short reviews on Goodreads and Amazon for a long time before, but joining Netgalley made me think about my reviews a bit more and I gradually started to write more detailed ones. Starting a blog seemed like a natural progression, but I had no idea just how much I would enjoy it and how many lovely people it would put me in contact with. I love it!

My reviews are still generally fairly short (although I do ramble on with some of them!). It really does depend on the book and how much I can say without giving too much away. I’m not a writer, so they’re far from eloquent, but I hope each one conveys my enjoyment sufficiently and if only one person buys a book based on my review then I’m happy as hopefully that will cause a ripple effect, leading to more sales as more people read, enjoy and recommend.

I am a fairly slow reader, so I also enjoy hosting author interviews and promotional posts in between reviews. I’m always happy to help to spread the word!

Advice to newbies…..

Am I still not a newbie myself? I’m not sure how long it is before we’re no longer a newbie, but I think we all learn from each other every day.

I guess my two main pieces of advice for anyone starting a book blog would be –

1 – Follow and make friends with fellow book bloggers. They are awesome people! All the ones I know are lovely, welcoming and supportive.

2 – When posting (positive) reviews tag the author (most have a twitter handle). You might just make their day 🙂
