May Cobb is a new to me author. I admit that All the Little Houses wasn’t on my radar until I won a copy via a giveaway.

Wow! It didn’t take me long to become addicted to this story.

I didn’t really know what to expect but I loved it. These people are (mostly) awful and not at all the type of folks you’d want as friends and/or neighbours, but they are highly entertaining to read about!

Nellie is a particularly nasty piece of work who always seems to get her own way as her parents are rich and influential in the community. Her mother, Charleigh, does whatever she can to make sure Nellie has ‘friends’ and a good social life. I’m not sure she’s really helping though and she seems to be perpetually terrified of what Nellie might be capable of.

None of the characters are particularly likeable, except for Jackson. I quite liked him and felt quite sorry for him a lot of the time. Jane too.

The others, oh my days! I’m quite disturbed by the fact that I’m sure there are real people like these lot out there in the real world. Their stories really do make for a captivating novel though.

Absolute escapism!

A story full of fascinating characters with ridiculous wealth and a sense of entitlement. Scandal, secrets, infidelity, jealousy. This story has it all. Full of intrigue and suspense. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Murder Before Evensong has been on my TBR for a while so I was chuffed when it was chosen as our Buddy Read Book Club read for December.

I’m not sure what I expected, but it’s a slow burn, cosy crime story with quite a sad conclusion. I really enjoyed it overall. At the beginning there isn’t much drama other than if, and when, they will finally install a toilet in the church. As a church goer, and a church treasurer for over eleven years, I found some of these characters very amusing and totally relatable. Some people really do think that they have their own pew and God forbid anyone else sits there or tries to change absolutely anything!

The story ramps up a bit when a regular parishioner is found dead in the church by the Rector. This I definitely can’t relate to, thankfully! From here on in the story becomes much more suspenseful and I was intrigued to find out who, in this quiet little place, might be a murderer.

There are some interesting characters throughout this story. Daniel’s mother amused me. His brother couldn’t be any more different to him. I did wonder where his story might lead.

I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series at some point.

Allie Shenton is back!! I absolutely love this series so I was very excited to learn there would be a book eight. I only wish I had read it sooner.

I had so many mixed feelings about this story. Imagine being sixteen years old and jailed for something you didn’t do. I can’t even imagine how that might affect someone’s mental health and general outlook on life. My heart went out to teenage Jamie, especially when he realises he is going to lose his Mum too. However, as much as I understand his anger and rage, his revenge plans are brutal. It would have been lovely to have seen him turn his life around after his release and live his best life. Show his so-called friends from back then that he wasn’t going to let them ruin his life any further. I realise this is so easy for me to say though and it also wouldn’t make as dramatic a storyline. Lol!

A woman is attacked in her home. A man is murdered in his own home, and another man is stabbed. Detective Allie Shenton and her team soon work out what is happening and have their work cut out to find the culprit before he gets to anyone else. I was rooting for them the whole time and although I had little sympathy for those who lied in the past no-one deserves to be murdered in their own home.

This is such a fast-paced crime thriller featuring a perpetrator who knows exactly what he’s doing as he’s had a long time to plan things. I could barely keep up! I thought I had it sussed though, and I did to a certain extent, but there are moments throughout that I absolutely did not see coming! My heart was in my mouth on more than one occasion and just when I thought it was over, BAM, another jaw-dropping shock. One that really had me panicking!

Just brilliant! I loved it! I can’t wait for book nine!

I had to start Blackout as soon as I’d finished book one in the Dark Iceland series, Snowblind, as I found myself quite invested in these characters. I am even more so now.

In this book we experience summer in Northern Iceland. Very different to the oppressive atmosphere of the dark winters. It sounds like such a beautiful country.

In this book Ari Thor and his colleagues are faced with a complex case whilst dealing with their own personal battles. Full of suspense, I was eager to find out where this story would lead. I thoroughly enjoyed the police procedural aspects of this story. I also enjoyed the story from the perspective of a journalist. As always, I do like learning more about the characters and their personal lives. I know some crime thriller readers don’t, but for me it helps to make them more real and believable. After all, whatever job anyone does it doesn’t necessarily define them.

This book ticks all the boxes for me again. I have already started book 3 in the series, Rupture.

Having never read a book without chapters before I have now read two in the same month! This one was a completely new format for me, written as a true crime documentary, and I wasn’t sure how I was going to get on with it at first, but I raced through it. I read it in two days, which is very quick for me. I was well and truly gripped and I think the format helped to keep me turning those pages.

A true-crime show is re-opening a twenty-year-old cold case to finally find out the truth about who murdered Luke Ryder. His stepchildren are helping with the investigations and the truths they discover along the way are nothing short of shocking. As the story unfolds it becomes more tense and the need to find out what really happened intensified. I thought I had it sussed at one point and was convinced I was right as I read on, but nope! How wrong was I! I would never have guessed. Absolutely heart-breaking.

Clever. Very clever! I loved it!

After reading and thoroughly enjoying The Murmurs (Book one in the Annie Jackson series) I couldn’t resist purchasing book two and bumping it to the top of my TBR list!

Annie is a very likeable character. One with a family curse I don’t envy her for. I’m not surprised she wants to hide away in her remote cottage where she gets some peace from everything.

However, when her adoptive mother begs for her help as her nephew has gone missing, she feels obliged to do whatever she can do to help although her visions don’t really work that way. With the help of her brother, Lewis, she leaves her sanctuary, unaware of the danger she’s about to be confronted with.

This is another fast paced, suspenseful novel which I found to be more than a little creepy. Some of the characters are certainly more than a little creepy! Again, I was completely invested from the very beginning. It was extremely difficult to put down. I would have happily read it in one sitting if I could have. I’m looking forward to book three, The Howling, but that isn’t being released until September. If you haven’t already, I recommend you catch up with the series in the meantime like I have. You won’t regret it!

I ordered a copy of The Murmurs after recently joining in with the cover reveal for book three in this series, The Howling, which will be released in September.

What a start to a series!

I became slightly obsessed with this book. It’s one of those you think about a lot when you’re not reading it and can’t wait to get back to.

Annie Jackson is a very likeable character, and I quickly found myself becoming increasingly concerned about her. Her premonitions are terrifying! Even more so for knowing that people think she is crazy when she tries to explain. I can’t even imagine where I would start to process these visions, let alone the family history that is unearthed as the story progresses. There are so many sad and shocking moments in this book I’d be surprised if anyone didn’t find it completely compelling!

A chilling tale I found extremely difficult to put down!

I have already ordered book two and look forward to book three later in the year.

I have absolutely LOVED this book!

I finished it this afternoon as part of a buddy read with Bookstagram friends and I’m looking forward to chatting about it with them, although I’m not sure where to start to be honest.

I was completely invested in Pip and Ravi’s story since reading, and thoroughly enjoying, the first two books in this series so I was very much looking forward to reading book three. I think I’d go as far to say as this is even better than the first two books put together. My heart was in my mouth for much of this book. It is so full of jaw dropping twists. I actually felt myself panicking at times.

This book is fast paced, suspenseful, full of wonderful relationships and solid friendships integral to the story line.

The very last page gave me goosebumps!

Pip and Ravi are just the best characters. I’m sad to be saying goodbye to them.

This is YA fiction at its very best.

I can’t recommend this series highly enough.

The Crossing is an excellent start to a new series.

Detective Louise Blackwell has recently been transferred and her first case is a brutal one. The first victim is an elderly lady who volunteers at the local church. What possible motive could there be for such an attack?

This killer isn’t done either and it soon becomes apparent that they might be seeking revenge. But, for what.

This is a fast-paced police procedural and I thoroughly enjoyed joining Blackwell and her team as they race against time to solve this case before anyone else dies.

I enjoyed the dynamic between the team and the back story behind Blackwell’s transfer. She does well to maintain professionalism considering.

The perpetrator is an interesting character. Not the type you imagine carrying out such horrendous crimes. As we get to know more about him though, things start to fall into place. He gave me a chill down my spine.

This book has everything you would expect from a good murder mystery. I look forward to catching up with Detective Louise Blackwell in book 2. It’s on my wishlist.
