Luke has no room in his life for rich heiresses. Been there. Done that. From the first time Luke and Rusty meet, they clash. She considers him nothing more than a lowly ranch hand who enjoys riling her temper. He finds her arrogant and prissy. But that doesn’t mean he can fight his attraction to her, nor hers to him. And when they find out they’ve both been duped by Rusty’s father the sparks really start to fly.

Love, Lies & High Heels has been on my Kindle for ages, so I thought it was about time I gave it a go and I’m glad I did. It has been quite an entertaining read.

When we meet Rusty, she comes across as a typical spoilt rich kid, who has everything, but has never had to work a day in her life for it. She’s not unlikeable though and has inherited her fortune from her mother, who has sadly died. She hasn’t had a relationship with her father since she was a little girl. Her father, Sam, has always regretted this and has decided it’s time they tried to form some sort of relationship. Out of fear of rejection, he sends his best friend and colleague, Luke, to Rusty with a lie. He is to tell her that Sam is dying and wishes to see her before it’s too late. He doesn’t think she’ll see him otherwise. Rusty rushes to be at her father’s side, regretting the time they’ve wasted too. To some this might seem a bit unbelievable, but I think many people soon put the past behind them when they think time is running out to make amends. I think we’re all guilty, sometimes, of assuming we’ll have our family and loved ones forever!

Anyway, it’s quite clear from the start that Rusty and Luke fancy the pants off each other, although they act as though they can’t stand the sight of each other! They’re like a pair of moody teenagers who can’t admit their obvious attraction to themselves, let alone one another. I seriously wanted to bang their heads together on more than one occasion, although I did find them quite amusing at times also! Luke had been hurt in the past though and Rusty has never had a man make her feel the way Luke does, and it unsettles her. Their relationship is a prime example of two people not communicating properly and also how you shouldn’t eavesdrop on someone else’s conversation and jump to all the wrong conclusions!

I’m a true believer in love at first sight and it was obvious from the start that Rusty and Luke were made for each other. Thankfully they get their act together eventually, but not before some heart-break along the way.

I definitely recommend this book if you like a love story, which gets a bit raunchy at times, but isn’t always plain sailing, with likeable characters, who might drive you a bit crazy at times.

There is a happy ending also, and who doesn’t like a happy ending?
