Celebrations and Confetti At Cedarwood Lodge by Rebecca Raisin

Celebrations and Confetti At Cedarwood Lodge

by Rebecca Raisin

Celebrations and Confetti is an excellent start to the Cedarwood Lodge series. I take my hat off to Clio for taking on such a massive challenge, although I can totally see the appeal. It sounds amazing! I love her commitment to the project, and I love her relationship with her friends, and colleagues.  She has a difficult relationship with her mother. A grieving mother who seems to carry a secret relating to Cedarwood. A secret she seems unwilling to share with Clio which strains their relationship further. It’s very intriguing and I hope we find out more about that.

Cedarwood is part of a small community and Clio is determined to bring it back to life with many celebrations and happy occasions. Will she leave herself any time for a bit of romance though!?

A very enjoyable read. I’ve already bought book two and started it. I’m finding myself quite invested in these characters.

** According to Amazon I purchased the Kindle edition of Celebrations and Confetti on 23rd November 2016 **

Clio Winters is finally fulfilling her childhood dream of renovating the gorgeous old Cedarwood Lodge in Evergreen. Turning it into the perfect destination for big celebrations, weddings and parties has brought her back home, but Cedarwood Lodge is in need of a lot of tender loving care.

Perhaps all the work will be the perfect distraction from the real reason she had to leave her glamorous New York life behind.

Will coming home be the best decision of her life… or her biggest regret?

Cedarwood Lodge is a delectable romance told in three parts – following Clio Winters journey back to her hometown of Evergreen. This is Part One.

Under the Lemon Tree

by Emma Cowell

Under the Lemon Tree is another gorgeous read by the very lovely Emma Cowell. I have loved every one of her books and, as always, this one is so beautifully written you can’t help but love the perfectly imperfect characters and fall in love with Greece all over again.

When we first meet Kat, she hasn’t long lost her twin brother, Nik. I can’t even begin to imagine that kind of devastating loss. My heart went out to her and her parents.

When she discovers she has inherited a house, on a Greek island, from an uncle she had never met she is naturally shocked and intrigued. As was I!

I loved following Kat on her journey to Agistri. It sounds like such a beautiful place. I could totally envisage her renovations of her new home and could quite happily live there myself.

I was not prepared for the secrets she discovers about her uncle, her brother, and her mother. Kat’s pain was almost palpable, and my heart ached for her at times throughout this story.

This is such a rollercoaster of an emotional read, set in a stunning location. A heart-warming tale of family dynamics, love, grief, friendship, personal growth, ambition, hope, achievement, romance, true love, and delicious Greek food. I was completely captivated!

** Many thanks to the author and publisher for my review copy via NetGalley **

Can one Greek summer heal the secrets of the past?

Could discovering a family secret encourage Kat to follow her heart?

Shattered by the sudden loss of her twin, Nik, Kat is lost in grief. The comfort of family feels both soothing and suffocating, but everything changes when she inherits a house on the breathtaking Greek island of Agistri from a mysterious uncle she’s never met.

Arriving on Agistri, Kat is mesmerized by its crystalline waters, lush pine forests, and the citrus-scented air. Among the white-washed houses and warm, welcoming locals, she begins to feel her heart heal. The island offers more than solace, sparking courage in Kat to face her loss — and maybe even embrace the spark of unexpected love…

But as she unearths her family’s buried past, Kat must also confront her own fears of belonging, forgiveness — and the possibility of rediscovering happiness in the shadow of heartbreak…

Daisy’s War (A Family at War Book 1) by Roberta Grieve

Daisy’s War (A Family at War Book 1)

by Roberta Grieve

Daisy’s War was a lovely read!

Daisy is a very likeable character who is desperate to do her bit for the war effort, along with everyone else, so she finds herself a job in the NAAFI. It’s hard work, but she loves it (apart from her suspicions that someone might thieving from the stores).

Her childhood sweetheart, boy next door, Bob has been sent abroad, and she fears she may never see him again. She has promised to wait for him though, so when Lofty strolls into her life she tries her hardest to resist him. She is so determined to be true to her Bob and I thought that was so sweet. We can’t help who we fall for though and I really felt for her as she wrestled with her conflicted feelings. Bob and Lofty are both lovely characters too.

I can’t imagine living through a world war with air raid threats, rationing, and your whole life being turned upside down. I know how it feels to be left behind whilst someone you love is in a war zone for months at a time though as my husband was in the Army for 22 years. Even though he was never front line there was always that niggle of worry that each time he went away might be the last time I saw him alive. It’s difficult getting up each day and just carrying on as ‘normal’ but there was nothing else I could do. Especially with two small children. I found Daisy’s worry for the uncertainty of her future very relatable.

Daisy’s family and friends are a good bunch of characters too. Each adding their own depth to the story. I really enjoyed it and hope to read book two in the series before too long. I would have jumped straight into it, but I have other reading commitments right now.

If you love a historical romance, I think you’ll love this book.

** According to Amazon I purchased the kindle edition of this book on the 10th of July 2021 **

Daisy’s War is a historical romance set on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent during World War Two. Daisy is too young to join the WAAFs like her glamorous sister Sylvia and opts instead to work in the NAAFI which serves the sailors and soldiers stationed in the dockyard and garrison with snacks, cigarettes and toiletries. She has vowed to stay true to Bob, her childhood sweetheart. But Bob is serving overseas and she fears he will not return. Enter tall handsome soldier Christopher, known to his friends as Lofty.

What Happens At The Beach… (Mills & Boon True Love) by Rachael Stewart @rach_b52

What Happens At The Beach…

by Rachael Stewart

What Happens At The Beach…. is the most adorable read! I absolutely loved Fae and Rick’s story.

I also wouldn’t mind a week or two (or three, or four….) in one of their houses on the beach 😉

Fae took a little while to grow on me, if I’m honest, but I think she is probably meant to. She seems to have a bit of a chip on her shoulder, and it takes a while for us to understand why. She is quite rude to Rick at first which I thought was unfair considering she had only just met him.

The hostility doesn’t last long though, understandably. Rick does sound like he could sweep any single lady off their feet! Fae soon softens but is conflicted, which is easier to understand as you get to know her better.

Their dogs help though, which I love!

This is a book full of sunshine, beach walks, long talks, and romance, with a few bumps in the road but ultimately the happiest of endings.

Another gorgeous story by the very lovely Rachael Stewart!

If you need a little shot of sunshine and smiles in your life, you should read this.

Temptation under the summer sun…

After her home and livelihood are demolished by developers, Fae agrees to house and dog-sit for her wealthy stepsister in Bondi Beach. She’s a fish out of water in this glamorous setting, and her guard is up when she encounters gorgeous neighbour Rick and his adorable Great Dane. But the philanthropic billionaire quickly challenges her perceptions, and their intense chemistry explodes into a passionate—but strictly temporary—flirtation. Because it’s clear Rick doesn’t trust easily…and Fae can never truly belong in his affluent world—can she? Yet it’s increasingly hard to imagine their trysts ever ending!

Fake Fling With The Billionaire (Mills & Boon True Love) by Rachael Stewart @rach_b52

Fake Fling With The Billionaire (Mills & Boon True Love)

by Rachael Stewart

Fake Fling with the Billionaire is another gorgeous read by the very lovely Rachael Stewart. I don’t think I’ve disliked any of her main characters yet.

Cassie is extremely likable, and Hugo is just divine. We meet them both in Paris, the perfect place for romance!

Of course, not all is plain sailing. They both have a past they are battling to move on from and they are both in the public eye. They decide pretending to be in love might give the paparazzi something new to report. Take the heat off Cassie for a while….

It’s only temporary, and not real of course! Or B….

I absolutely loved this story!

I loved the setting and the characters (I really liked Hugo’s mother, and his father grew on me eventually). I loved being swept along as Hugo shows Cassie Paris at its finest. He’s exceptionally romantic and thoughtful. No wonder Cassie falls for him!

This book made me smile, a lot!

The epilogue brought a tear to my eye.

Beautiful!

Bella’s Countryside Christmas by Claire Huston @ClaraVal

Bella’s Countryside Christmas

by Claire Huston

Firstly, I love that the main character in this book is called Bella 😊

Secondly, I love that Bella is such a likeable character. I warmed to her instantly. She’s a braver woman than me. There is no way I could gate-crash a wedding pretending to be someone else, although I understand her desire to help people and I’m sure Jack being quite easy on the eye helped. I do believe we just click immediately with some people. The whole situation is amusing and heart-warming. I’m surprised she left when she did.

I certainly don’t blame her for wanting to move to a cosy cottage in the countryside. Life is too short to be miserable.

Claire Huston’s description of village life sounds exactly as I would imagine it to be. Everyone knowing everyone and everything about each other. I imagine it would be comforting and somewhat annoying sometimes at the same time. I do love the sense of community though which I think has been lost in most of today’s society, unfortunately.

There are some fabulous characters throughout this book. There’s a fair to be organised, a crime to be solved which adds a bit of suspense to the story, issues with colleagues, family dynamics, festive cheer and the stress that often comes with it, and of course romance. What’s not to love!?

This book made me smile a lot and sometimes laugh out loud. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

** Many thanks to Claire Huston for my review copy **

Fleeing her heartache and horrendous job, Bella stumbles upon a December wedding in the beautiful village of Haileybrook and the spirit of the season moves her to act as a fake date to handsome stranger Jack.

Jack and Bella hit it off, but Bella has to leave in a hurry and their magical evening soon becomes nothing more than a blissful memory.

A year later, Bella is returning to Haileybrook, seeking a fresh start and a quieter life. With a new job close to her cosy cottage home, a peaceful Christmas is surely only days away.

But it’s not long before family surprises, small-town feuds and romantic drama disrupt Bella’s plans, and she has to wonder if being alone is what she really wants for Christmas …

Reluctant Bride’s Baby Bombshell by Rachael Stewart @rach_b52

Reluctant Bride’s Baby Bombshell

by Rachael Stewart

I make no secret of the fact that I love Rachael Stewart’s books and this one is no exception.
I have absolutely loved being whisked away to the Australian outback with Eve and Nate! 😍
Picture this, you meet someone in a bar, the chemistry between you is undeniable and you share an amazing night together. Two consenting adults, neither wanting anything more, the chances of seeing each other again unlikely. Or so you thought….
Just brilliant!
The heat between these two is almost palpable! I was rooting for them from the start.
The unusual clause in Eve’s father’s will intrigued me. Eve’s opinion on that is perfectly justified. I enjoyed this aspect of the story. I think it makes it quite unique.
I loved the relationships Eve shares with her sisters too.
Another beautiful story from the very lovely @rachaelstewart3 ❤️
All the stars from me!

My Unexpected Christmas Wedding (How to Win a Monroe, Book 2) by Rachael Stewart @rach_b52

My Unexpected Christmas Wedding (How to Win a Monroe, Book 2)

by Rachael Stewart

This is just the most gorgeous story! I’d have enjoyed it at any time of the year, but it is a special, warm, and cosy read at Christmas time.

I know I’ve said it before, but I will say it again, I love Rachael Stewart’s books. They are just perfect for losing yourself in for a few delightful hours.

As this is book two of the How to Win a Munroe series it features characters I loved from book one, but centres around Aiden Monroe. Aiden took over the family business when his father passed away. He never really had the time to grieve properly and won’t even entertain the idea of a serious relationship. His poorly mother would love to see him settled and happy though. He would do anything to make his mother happy, so he enlists the help of his best friend, Elena. Elena is only too happy to help.

I did want to shake Aiden on occasion. I was totally with the Mums!!

Such a beautiful story with gorgeous (some in more ways than one) characters, set in a beautiful place at the most wonderful time of the year. What is not to love!?

‘YOU WANT ME TO BE YOUR FAKE WIFE?’

In this How to Win a Monroe story, when my best friend Aiden Monroe proposed, all my foolish youthful dreams came true. But the guarded bachelor only wants a temporary fiancée to appease his family. Still, after my recent break-up, spending Christmas with Aiden sounds ideal. We didn’t expect our families’ enthusiasm for our engagement… Nor that we’d be hurtling towards a real Christmas wedding!
