I am absolutely over the moon to taking part in Kitty French’s Mystery at Maplemead Castle: A laugh-till-you-cry cozy mystery (The Chapelwick Mysteries Book 2) blog tour! 🙂
This fabulous book was released on 17th March.
Publisher: Bookouture (17th March 2017)
Welcome to Chapelwick, a leafy English town in the hills of Shropshire, where chocolate pecan cookies come with a helping of sabotage.
Maplemead Castle is crawling with ghosts, and the new owners need them gone. When Melody Bittersweet and the Girls’ Ghostbusting Agency arrive on scene, they quickly identify the troublemakers swinging from the chandeliers… literally.
A century ago, stunning trapeze artist Britannia Lovell plunged to her death, and has done every night since. But did she really just fall, or was there something more to her demise?
Forced to work with Leo Dark, her scoundrel ex, and infuriating, irresistible reporter Fletcher Gunn, Melody’s investigative powers are under strain (i.e. lost in a pink mist of lust and confusion). She needs her team on top form, but best friend Marina’s cake pipeline goes AWOL, assistant Artie’s distracted by a giant sausage roll, and the pug is scared witless by a lion.
Somewhere, hidden in the castle, is a heart-breaking secret, but what will it take to find it? And is there a chance it could set Britannia free, or is she doomed to repeat her last fateful act forever?
An utterly hilarious, gripping, spooktastic read for fans of HY Hanna, MC Beaton, Gina LaManna and Jana DeLeon.
This book is hilarious!! Just what I needed to lift my spirits! 😉
Having read and loved The Skeletons of Scarborough House: An absolutely hilarious cozy mystery (The Chapelwick Mysteries Book 1), which at the time was called Melody Bittersweet and The Girl’s Ghostbusting Agency, I was very much looking forward to reading book 2.
I have thoroughly enjoyed catching up with Melody, Marina and Artie as well as Melody’s mother and champagne drinking Gran. Not forgetting Lestat, the pug. I think he is my favourite character!
In this book, Melody and her team are called to Maplemead castle as it’s new occupants, who are also highly amusing, are having a few issues with circus performer ghosts, one of which really doesn’t want them to live there. The new residents are planning on renting the castle out as a film set, but are unable to until their paranormal problem is resolved.
Melody finds herself having to work along side Leo Dark, her rival and her ex. Not ideal, but she’s determined to prove her professionalism. They don’t have long to figure out how to help these ghosts to move on.
If you haven’t read book 1 yet, I really recommend that you do. This could probably be enjoyed as a standalone, but there are references to book 1. Plus, you’re just missing out if you don’t read them both anyway.
I LOVE the characters in this series. They are all so different and endearing in their own way. Melody cracks me up! I have laughed out loud, A LOT, whilst reading this book. I love the relationship she shares with her Mum and Gran and her loyalty to her colleagues and friends. I especially enjoyed her love/hate relationship with Fletcher Gunn. Very entertaining! The daft things Melody comes out with when he’s around, because he flusters her so much, are just so funny!
I have loved everything about this story. For the most part, it is highly amusing, but it also has some beautifully moving moments. It’s so wonderfully written. I can’t imagine anyone not loving this series. I highly recommend and I can’t wait for book 3!
Many thanks, as always, to Bookouture for my auto-approval status on Netgalley and to the lovely Kim Nash for inviting me to join in with this fabulous blog tour.
