Heavenfield

My review…..

Well, I didn’t see that coming!

Heavenfield is another cracking read in the DCI Ryan series. I loved books 1&2 and I think the series is just getting better and better. I was hooked from the very first page, which didn’t surprise me at all having read the first two books. LJ Ross has a way of drawing you in immediately and, so far, I have been treated to three excellent stories, all of which follow on from each other.

The series is set in a beautiful part of our country which I wish I was close enough to visit more often.

If you haven’t read any of this series as yet, then I would recommend you read them in order. They may work well as standalones, but the characters’ stories do progress throughout the series and I love how we get to know them that little bit better as you go along. The cases they are working on do link back to previous cases also.

DCI Ryan is a very likeable character. If you’ve read these books yourself and/or seen other reviews then I’m sure you’ll agree he’s a very charismatic character. I think I might have a little crush on him! I know I’m not the first and I’m sure I won’t be the last! He’s described as tall and dark, tough, but with a soft side, an exceptional detective who is loyal to his team and fiercely protective of those he loves. What’s not to love? He has his flaws though, of course, but these just make me warm to him more. I love how is relationship with Anna is progressing. Both have seen tragedy in their lives, but it has brought them closer together.

In Heavenfield the team are faced with another brutal death and DCI Ryan finds himself the prime suspect. His team are obviously desperate to prove his innocence, but have to by following the correct procedures which can prove frustrating. When other members of ‘The Circle’ are found dead the investigation picks up pace and certain colleagues’ involvement begins to become clear. They can’t be allowed to get away with their crimes.

This is another fast-paced mystery with shocks and surprises along the way. Whenever I thought I had it sussed another twist would throw me off and see me questioning everything all over again. As the reader we do know some of what’s going on before the team and I found myself willing them to see what is seemingly staring them in the face. It’s very cleverly written and I loved it!

There is an excellent mix of characters who I’m very much looking forward to catching up with again in Book 4.
