Well, what can I say? I know my review will never do this book the justice it deserves. I felt the same after reading every book in this series. I just love L J Ross’ writing and this series just gets better and better. I can’t tell you how excited I am when there is a new book out! It really is like catching up with old friends.
If you haven’t read any of this series yet, you don’t know what you’re missing out on. I would recommend reading them in order, as I prefer to do. You could read this without having read the others, but then you wouldn’t have the pleasure of getting to know some of the main characters along the way. Their stories have really developed throughout the series.
DCI Ryan has to be one of my most favourite detectives ever! I do have a teeny tiny crush on him 😉 He is a no-nonsense detective and doesn’t suffer fools gladly. We do see a softer side to him though with his relationship with Anna and with his friendship with Phillips. The banter between Ryan and Phillips is quite hilarious at times. They’re like a comedy double act and I think they get more amusing with each book.
This story involves murder (of course) and the mystery of a possible Viking shipwreck. Could history be in the making and would one of the locals really be capable of killing for some possible treasure buried at sea? When the body count rises it’s soon apparent that there is more to this story than meets the eye.
This is brilliantly written, as always. A fast-paced murder mystery which kept me guessing right to the very end, with excellent characterisation and an intricate plot with plenty of surprises along the way. There is also a bit of romance and humour and it’s set in such a beautiful part of the country which I hope to visit as soon as possible.
I have absolutely loved it and it goes without saying that I am happy to recommend to anyone and everyone!
A big thank you to L J Ross for my review kindle copy and my beautiful signed paperback 🙂 x
